5 Signs It’s Time to Talk to a Mental Health Professional

October 8, 2025

(And How Lifeline Walk-In Medical & Mental Health Clinic Can Help)

Mental health is a crucial part of overall wellness, yet many people wait far too long before reaching out for support. Whether it’s due to stigma, uncertainty, or the hustle of daily life, recognizing when it’s time to speak with a mental health professional can make a huge difference in how you feel, function, and move forward.

At Lifeline Walk-In Medical & Mental Health Nursing Clinic, we make it easy to get the help you need—7 days a week, in person or virtually anywhere in California. If you're unsure whether it’s time to seek support, here are five key signs that you shouldn’t ignore.

1. You Feel Overwhelmed or Constantly Anxious

It’s normal to feel stressed occasionally—but if you’re feeling anxious, worried, or emotionally overwhelmed more often than not, it may be time to talk to a professional.

Common symptoms include:

  • Racing thoughts or inability to relax
  • Feeling like you’re “on edge” all the time
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Trouble sleeping due to excessive worry

This may indicate generalized anxiety, burnout, or even panic disorder. Our licensed therapists at Lifeline can help you identify the root of your stress and provide evidence-based tools to manage anxiety in a healthy, sustainable way.

2. You’ve Lost Interest in Things You Once Enjoyed

One of the most common symptoms of depression is a loss of interest in activities that used to bring you joy. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, hobbies, or even everyday tasks, losing motivation or enjoyment is often a signal of deeper emotional struggles.

You might notice:

  • Withdrawing from friends or social situations
  • Feeling emotionally numb
  • Struggling to find purpose or motivation
  • Constant fatigue or apathy

This doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you—it simply means your mind and body need support. Lifeline provides compassionate, non-judgmental depression treatment with a holistic approach that looks at your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

3. Your Sleep or Appetite Has Changed

Changes in sleep or eating habits can be one of the first signs that your mental health is out of balance. If these changes persist for more than a couple of weeks, it’s time to take them seriously.

Watch for:

  • Insomnia or sleeping too much
  • Sudden changes in appetite
  • Unexplained weight gain or loss
  • Feeling tired despite getting sleep

At Lifeline, our integrated care model includes medical evaluations, so we can address not just your mental health, but any related physical symptoms. We also offer wellness services like Vitamin B12 shotsNAD+ therapy, and IV hydration to help restore energy and vitality.

4. Your Relationships Are Strained

When you're struggling internally, it often shows up externally in your relationships—with your partner, children, coworkers, or friends. If you find it difficult to connect with others, or are having frequent conflicts, it may be time to get professional guidance.

Signs to look out for:

  • Constant arguments or emotional distance
  • Difficulty expressing your feelings
  • Increased isolation or social withdrawal
  • Struggling to trust or feel supported by others

Our Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFTs) are trained to help you understand and improve your communication, set healthy boundaries, and build deeper, more meaningful connections.

5. You’re Asking Yourself: “Is This Normal?”

If you’ve been wondering whether what you're feeling is normal, or thinking “maybe I should talk to someone,” trust that instinct. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

Mental health support can help you:

  • Process life transitions or grief
  • Cope with trauma or unresolved emotions
  • Gain clarity during times of uncertainty
  • Build resilience, confidence, and self-awareness

At Lifeline Walk-In Medical & Mental Health Clinic, we treat you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. Our compassionate staff provides confidential, supportive care tailored to your needs—whether that means therapy, medical support, or a combination of both.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Public Health Department is ending clinical services at seven of its 13 locations throughout the county. What You Need To Know Cuts result from significant fiscal challenges because of a more than $50 million cut in federal, state, and local funding According to the County Health Department, federal funding accounts for almost 50% of its budget Due to continued uncertainty, the statement released by the health department noted there could be additional service disruptions going forward The clinics that are stopping services offered things like vaccines and STD testing In a statement released by the health department, it cited significant fiscal challenges because of a more than $50 million cut in federal, state and local funding. Dr. Anulika Chilaka opened Lifeline Walk-in Clinic in Torrance a year ago, and she said privately owned clinics like hers will not be impacted by these cuts. “It is concerning when people are losing access to care. It is always concerning to anyone from a health care standpoint, but we want people to know we are here for you,” said Dr. Chilaka. According to the County Health Department, federal funding accounts for almost 50% of its budget. Because of a more than $50 million cut in federal, state, and local funding, the county will close locations starting on February 27. Due to continued uncertainty, the statement released by the health department noted there could be additional service disruptions going forward. Leaving family-owned clinics like Dr. Chilaka’s filling the gap. “We are open, we don’t have the same restrictions, we can do as much as we can, we can spend as much time with our patients, we can do more than perhaps some other places may be able to,” said Dr. Chilaka. In a statement sent to Spectrum News by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, she said in part: “The Department of Public Health’s decision was based on low patient volume and the clinic’s limited scope of care. I will continue to monitor DPH’s closure plan to ensure patients are fully supported through referrals to nearby community-based clinics and other transition resources so they continue receiving the care they need.” The clinics that are stopping services offered things like vaccines and STD testing. According to the health department, these locations will still offer non-clinical services and programs.
