6 ways to reduce cancer risk

Did You Know?

Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women.

There are many interventions you can take to protect your heart and be healthy.

Heart Healthy Interventions

Healthy Eating: Reduce saturated fats such as beef and pork, fried foods, and carbohydrates. Select healthy options that are low in fat such as whole wheat, fruits, vegetables, and high in protein such as salmon or tuna.

Routine Screenings: Annual and periodic preventive health screenings for heart disease include blood pressure, BMI, EKG, and blood testing for cholesterol and diabetes.

Smoking Cessation: If you smoke, seek medical help and support groups to quit if necessary. Nicotine found in vaping products can also be harmful to your heart and lungs.

Weight Loss: Aim for a healthy weight and BMI under 25. Just 10 lbs of weight loss can positively affect your heart.

Stress Reduction: Stress can contribute to high blood pressure and heart disease. Try relaxation techniques and seek friend, family, or medical support.

Physical Activity: Regular physical activity for fitness, weight loss, and stress reduction can also benefit your heart and lungs. Aim for minimally 75–150 minutes of moderate to high-intensity aerobic exercise weekly.

Adequate Sleep: Sleep is essential for healthy brain function and good mental and physical health. Aim for approximately 7–9 hours of sleep per night.

LifeLine Walk-In Medical & Mental Health Nursing Clinic | Open 7 Days a Week When it comes to your well-being, it’s not just about physical health—or just about mental health. True health is holistic , meaning it involves the care and connection of both body and mind. At LifeLine Walk-In Medical & Mental Health Nursing Clinic , we believe that taking care of yourself means addressing both physical and emotional needs, every day of the week. Why Mental and Medical Health Are Equally Important Your mind and body are in constant communication. Stress can trigger physical symptoms like headaches or stomach pain, just as chronic illness can lead to depression or anxiety. Ignoring one side of the equation often affects the other. That’s why it’s essential to care for both mental and medical health—with equal compassion. The good news? Small, mindful changes can have a big impact. Here are five practical ways to improve your holistic health: 1. Prioritize Preventive Care Routine check-ups and screenings help catch health concerns early. Even if you’re feeling fine, regular visits to your healthcare provider can keep things on track and give you peace of mind. 👉 Visit LifeLine Clinic 7 days a week—no appointment necessary! 2. Practice Mindfulness Taking even 5–10 minutes a day to focus on your breath, journal your thoughts, or sit in silence can calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety. Mindfulness connects you to the present and helps you tune in to what your body and mind truly need. 3. Move Your Body (Your Way) Exercise doesn’t have to mean the gym. Dancing in your kitchen, taking a walk with a friend, or stretching before bed can improve your mood and energy. Movement releases endorphins and strengthens both your heart and your mind. 4. Stay Connected Strong social connections are a powerful antidote to stress. Whether it's talking to a therapist, chatting with a friend, or joining a community group, reaching out helps reduce feelings of isolation and boosts emotional resilience. 👉 Need someone to talk to? Our mental health nurses are here to listen, support, and guide you—every day of the week. 5. Fuel Your Body and Mind Nourishing food doesn’t just help your body—it powers your brain too. Try to include colorful fruits and veggies, healthy fats, and plenty of water in your daily diet. Don’t forget: eating well is a form of self-respect.
