When it comes to your well-being, it’s not just about physical health—or just about mental health. True health is holistic, meaning it involves the care and connection of both body and mind. At LifeLine Walk-In Medical & Mental Health Nursing Clinic, we believe that taking care of yourself means addressing both physical and emotional needs, every day of the week.

Why Mental and Medical Health Are Equally Important

Your mind and body are in constant communication. Stress can trigger physical symptoms like headaches or stomach pain, just as chronic illness can lead to depression or anxiety. Ignoring one side of the equation often affects the other. That’s why it’s essential to care for both mental and medical health—with equal compassion.

The good news? Small, mindful changes can have a big impact. Here are five practical ways to improve your holistic health:

1. Prioritize Preventive Care

Routine check-ups and screenings help catch health concerns early. Even if you’re feeling fine, regular visits to your healthcare provider can keep things on track and give you peace of mind.

2. Practice Mindfulness

Taking even 5–10 minutes a day to focus on your breath, journal your thoughts, or sit in silence can calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety. Mindfulness connects you to the present and helps you tune in to what your body and mind truly need.

3. Move Your Body (Your Way)

Exercise doesn’t have to mean the gym. Dancing in your kitchen, taking a walk with a friend, or stretching before bed can improve your mood and energy. Movement releases endorphins and strengthens both your heart and your mind.

4. Stay Connected

Strong social connections are a powerful antidote to stress. Whether it's talking to a therapist, chatting with a friend, or joining a community group, reaching out helps reduce feelings of isolation and boosts emotional resilience.

👉 Need someone to talk to? Our mental health nurses are here to listen, support, and guide you—every day of the week.

5. Fuel Your Body and Mind

Nourishing food doesn’t just help your body—it powers your brain too. Try to include colorful fruits and veggies, healthy fats, and plenty of water in your daily diet. Don’t forget: eating well is a form of self-respect.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Public Health Department is ending clinical services at seven of its 13 locations throughout the county. What You Need To Know Cuts result from significant fiscal challenges because of a more than $50 million cut in federal, state, and local funding According to the County Health Department, federal funding accounts for almost 50% of its budget Due to continued uncertainty, the statement released by the health department noted there could be additional service disruptions going forward The clinics that are stopping services offered things like vaccines and STD testing In a statement released by the health department, it cited significant fiscal challenges because of a more than $50 million cut in federal, state and local funding. Dr. Anulika Chilaka opened Lifeline Walk-in Clinic in Torrance a year ago, and she said privately owned clinics like hers will not be impacted by these cuts. “It is concerning when people are losing access to care. It is always concerning to anyone from a health care standpoint, but we want people to know we are here for you,” said Dr. Chilaka. According to the County Health Department, federal funding accounts for almost 50% of its budget. Because of a more than $50 million cut in federal, state, and local funding, the county will close locations starting on February 27. Due to continued uncertainty, the statement released by the health department noted there could be additional service disruptions going forward. Leaving family-owned clinics like Dr. Chilaka’s filling the gap. “We are open, we don’t have the same restrictions, we can do as much as we can, we can spend as much time with our patients, we can do more than perhaps some other places may be able to,” said Dr. Chilaka. In a statement sent to Spectrum News by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, she said in part: “The Department of Public Health’s decision was based on low patient volume and the clinic’s limited scope of care. I will continue to monitor DPH’s closure plan to ensure patients are fully supported through referrals to nearby community-based clinics and other transition resources so they continue receiving the care they need.” The clinics that are stopping services offered things like vaccines and STD testing. According to the health department, these locations will still offer non-clinical services and programs.
